To try and explain what I'm feeling right now would be impossible considering my lack of language skills and the experience of emotions I've never felt before. We have returned from the hospital with a baby boy, whom we named J C Colello.
He was born at 1:41 AM on April 1st, 2004. He weighed 9 pounds, 14 ounces, and measured 22 inches at birth.
I'm sure Kate will eventually get around to letting you know all about it. I'm sure I will, at some point, recap my memory of the event (probably over and over again). Right now, all I can say is that I am overjoyed, impossibly happy, fantastically proud, a little tired, and scared out of my mind. There is a little human being on the floor in our apartment, a little human being that I saw emerge from my wife just two days ago.
I feel like my life has just begun.
And then...Pictures to follow.

My love to all three of you.
Posted by california joe at 2004:04:06:11:34:29WOW! That's a big baby! Poor Kate. I seem to remember that I was 7 lbs 11 ozs. So anyway, congratulations!!! Just remember that children are our greatest natural resource... although I hope it never comes to that.
Posted by justin at 2004:04:06:10:10:00I'm so happy for you guys. I already wrote something sentimental on Kate's site, so I'll get right to my schtick...
My cousin Alice also had a baby very recently and since then I've had this question weighing on my shoulders. Why exactly has it become tradition to give a baby's weight and measurement after it's born? I figure maybe it's because it's solid mathematical numbers, proving in fact that a being now exists. And if you think of it that way it's not a bad idea. In fact, I think we should bring it a step further. Like for example,... On Jan. 6th Fred returned from a restaurant in San Jose with a new girlfriend call Melinda Katherine Harris. She weighed 115 ibs. and was 5 foot 6 inches upon finishing her salad. Heh? Heh? Come on, admit it, it's a good idea!
But seriously folks, Congratulations! I can't wait to see and hold him. You've given me a reason to return to NY soon!

CONGRATULATIONS, MARC AND KATE! WELCOME, J!
I was reading Marc's announcement post and getting chills remembering when Juliana was born... it IS the best thing in the world, and the most rewarding as well... IT GETS BETTER, TOO! Wait until you hear "I love you, Mommy (or Daddy!)".
CONGRATULATIONS, AND BEST OF EVERYTHING... ENJOY YOUR NEW FAMILY!
