a hard know to think.

05 Feb 2004

...and another thing.

I'm so tired of everybody telling me how hard this is going to be. It's a discussion I can't win -- I understand that I have absolutely no concept of the realities of childbirth or childbearing, and I express that, and yet everyone feels compelled to chirp up with some inane comment letting me know that it will be so much worse than anything I can possibly dream up.

My mission as a mother will include making soon-to-be mothers feel confident and capable by regaling them with stories about how things really ain't so bad. Why do we insist, as a society, that children make our lives a living hell? Why not tell stories of the wonderful parts of parenting, and not just the horror stories?

...of course, that's if they've already made it through the power-puking stage.

I was up too late last night for my own good... I'm not referring to anything in particular here, especially not a nice e-mail (or three) I got from Karen yesterday. Actual information: good. Horrifying anecdotes: bad.

whew! i was about to write a long apologetic email. instead i'll just say that sweatpants are far more practical than the pregnancy prom dress, stylish as it may be.

also, you will be fine.

Maybe they're just preparing you for the worst so that you'll be pleasantly surprised at the end?

You know I hate to play this card, but YOU HAVE NO UTERUS. That said, you may be right. I just don't work well under those conditions.

I'm sure that you will be a wonderful mom and parenthood will be fabulously fulfilling. I think that when people say it's hard, they just forget to mention how great it is. At least I hope that's what's going on.

Oooh..I remember the stupid ass comments by strangers and family alike: "Your life is officially over..blah blah blah." You know what I say to that..go blow air up someone else's ass. Grr...my Isabelle is now 7 months and not only do I still have a "life" but her presence has made my life full of surprises and excitement. Yeah..it can be hard in parts..but so can keeping plants alive. :) Good luck and great site!
