a hard know to think.

15 Dec 2003

logistics of carrying my pants.

I'm not exactly clear on how my pants are supposed to stay up when my waist is bigger than my hips. Pregnant-lady-half-elastic helps, and so does a belt, but when I'm carrying a carload of packages and trying not to bump my belly on my rearview mirror, I can't help but wonder why there isn't a better solution than putting everything down and hiking up my jeans for the fifth time since I left the mall.

Beerbellies of the world, how do you manage?

Why did you look at me when you said that?

just put the waistband under the swell and cinch 'em good around the hips with a belt. this approach will show a little crack now and again, so a long shirt is an excellent helper.

That's pretty much been my chosen course of action. Problem is, most maternity clothes don't have belt loops (either they have elastic tops or they just don't want to remind pregnant women that their belts would make better headbands, now) so this only works on the two or three pre-maternity pairs of pants that I can still wedge myself into. All that wedging leads to, you guessed it, more crack.

I have one pair of maternity jeans that are half-elastic, with belt loops, and they do the job pretty well, as long as I keep the belt nice and tight.

It doesn't help that I gained eight pounds this month.

Remember: it's all placenta.

...and believe me, I can sympathize with you on the buttcrack issue.

I think this is why I see a lot of pregnant women in dresses. Best of luck!

Wow, I've missed a lot. Congrats on being preggers!
